BISMARCK — The North Dakota Insurance Department is seeking to hire a consultant to analyze potential health care reforms, Republican Commissioner Jon Godfread said Tuesday, May 8.
In a news release, the department said it aims to “understand the options available and potential impact that implementing such efforts may have on stabilizing the individual health insurance market in North Dakota.” It said the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, “continues to destabilize” the state’s individual health insurance market while congressional reform efforts have stalled.
A request for proposals was issued May 1 and capped the project’s budget at $200,000. Godfread hopes to present findings to state lawmakers by the end of September, months ahead of the 2019 legislative session.
